Our impact
We are supporting places to pioneer inclusive growth delivery through experimentation, innovation and sharing of good practice
In 2020, we launched the IGN, with the ambition of supporting 14 places across the UK to set the gold standard in inclusive growth, translating it from theory to practice in a way that benefits people and places.
Our Impact Report celebrates four years of initial grant funding from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to establish the IGN as a thriving, successful network with real world impact.
We have covered a wide range of activity, experimenting and building a delivery model that responds to member needs and pushes the dial on inclusive growth in places.
As the new government places a core focus on fostering growth across the country as its central mission, we now have a major opportunity to accelerate our mission and embed inclusive growth as the new paradigm in economic policy and practice.

Our key learnings
Inclusive growth cannot and will not be delivered by a single sector or tier of government acting in isolation, but a whole system pulling in the same direction. Below we set out some of the key principles for local and combined authorities, national government, and anchor partners learned over the network’s four years of operating across 14 places.
- Deeper relationships between national and local government
- Mature and respectful collaboration between and across tiers of government
- Fostering inclusive growth across the full spectrum of policy and practice
- A shared understanding of inclusive growth at the local level
- Cross-sectoral collaboration
There is an opportunity for the IGN to be a powerful vehicle in prototyping new approaches and interventions that can be scaled up nationally.
